Meet Our New Athletic Director and Secondary Health & PE Teacher

Mr. Shawn Walker

We are excited to welcome Mr. Shawn Walker to Tyrrell County Schools as our new Athletic Director and Secondary Health & Physical Education Teacher.

Mr. Walker brings over 30 years of experience in athletics and education, including an impressive 20-year career as a collegiate head basketball coach. A native of eastern North Carolina and graduate of Elizabeth City State University, Mr. Walker holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and a Master of Science in Athletic Administration from Slippery Rock University.

Throughout his career, Mr. Walker has led programs at the NCAA Division I and II levels, earning numerous accolades including multiple Coach of the Year honors. His leadership has taken teams to conference championships and national tournaments, and he has a proven track record of fostering academic and athletic excellence. In addition to his coaching roles, he has served in school and university leadership positions, including Dean of Students at Allen University.

Mr. Walker is known for his strong leadership, passion for student success, and commitment to building positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, and the community. We are thrilled to have him lead our athletic programs and inspire our student-athletes to achieve their best—both on and off the field.
