Tyrrell Elementary School Teacher Receives $674 Donation for Classroom Supplies

Mrs. Tabitha Davenport, Second Grade Teacher at Tyrrell Elementary, has received a $674 donation for her classroom supplies through the DonorsChoose platform. Mrs. Davenport requested the donation to purchase materials for her students to create anchor charts among other things.

"Our students love to create classroom anchor charts and this motivates them to learn new material," the teacher wrote in her DonorsChoose project request. "The teacher may model some charts related to reading or math skills and then have students create and explain their own models to support learning."

Mrs. Davenport said that she plans to share her students' work with others and model for younger students. "This builds student moral and builds stronger relationships within our school community and classroom community," she wrote.

The donation was made by Horace Mann Insurance Company.

"We take pride in helping teachers and their students in and out of the classroom," said Wendell Jennings and Ryan Flake of Horace Mann Insurance and Financial Services. "We're proud to support this Equity Focus School and help ensure that every student has what they need to succeed."

Mrs. Davenport is grateful for the donation and says that it will make a big difference in her classroom. "Thank you for your support to our 2nd grade classroom community," she said. "Your generosity will help with engagement and academic success of all students within our room."

Anchor charts are a popular teaching tool that can be used to help students learn and retain information. They are typically large posters or flip charts that contain visual representations of key concepts. Anchor charts can be used to teach a variety of subjects, including math, reading, science, and social studies.

In addition to helping students learn, anchor charts can also help to build classroom community. When students work together to create anchor charts, they are sharing their ideas and learning from each other. This can help to create a more positive and supportive learning environment.

The donation to the Mrs. Davenport's DonorsChoose project is a great example of how the DonorsChoose community can come together to support teachers and students in need. Every dollar donated makes a difference, and it is inspiring to see how many people are willing to give to help students succeed.
