Tyrrell County Authorities Jointly Address TikTok Video Claiming Threats to Schools
Tyrrell County, NC — This morning, the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Tyrrell County Schools’ staff, became aware of a TikTok video circulating online that lists approximately 104 pages of school names from across the country, along with several schools in North Carolina. The video’s header reads, “CHECK YOUR SCHOOL IF IT IS TARGETED ON THE LIST.”
Along with receiving the video, an anonymous tip was received on the P3 Tip Line indicating that some schools in Tyrrell County and around the region might be included on this list. The Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement agencies, District and School Administration immediately launched an investigation. Despite thorough reviews of the TikTok video provided to us, none of the schools within our jurisdiction appear to be on the list.
As a precautionary measure and at the request of Tyrrell County Schools, the Sheriff’s Office has placed Deputies in and around the schools to assist our School Resource Officers (SRO) and school staff, if needed. Additionally, our partners at the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center (NC ISAAC) have been informed of the situation and will continue to track any developments statewide.
While the validity of the threat remains unconfirmed, we want to assure the community that all parties are taking this matter very seriously. The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Tyrrell County Schools, will continue to be vigilant and address any issues as they arise.
Students are encouraged to reach out to their school guidance staff or administrators if they have any safety concerns or questions. The district’s anonymous See Something, Say Something tip app located on the Tyrrell County School’s web page is also available to report any student concerns.
If you have any information on this or other crimes please contact the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office at 252-796-2251 or Dare County Communications Center at 252-473-3444.
