Tyler Tapped to Lead Tyrrell Elementary
Columbia, NC
May 26th, 2026
When you begin your education career in middle school, most people understand that you can make it through anything. Identified as some of the toughest grade levels to instruct and manage, Angela L. Tyler welcomed the opportunity. Starting out as a middle school science teacher, Mrs. Tyler increased her students' science scores by 56 percentage points. She also served as a Beginning Teacher Mentor and Testing Coordinator during this time. She was on a path to school leadership.
She moved up the ranks quickly, with her “know-how” and relationship building skills, and went from Instructional Coach to Assistant Principal. Mrs. Tyler served 5 years as an Assistant Principal in Beaufort and Halifax Counties, and at Elementary and Middle Schools respectively. With the motivation to help students and climb higher, Tyler accepted the challenge at Weldon City Schools. She grabbed the school by the horns with a positive leadership style, a “no excuses” work ethic, and a tireless commitment to student success. Tyler stated, “My school exceeded growth for the 2024-2025 school year. These accomplishments reflect my dedication to fostering academic excellence and creating a culture of continuous improvement.”
A graduate of NC Wesleyan and Cambridge College (MA), Angela has served in the
NC Instructional Leadership Academy (NCILA), North Carolina Early Career Principals’ Academy, and the Mastering Leadership Dynamics for Educational Leaders (Truist Leadership Institute).
We welcome Mrs. Tyler to Tyrrell County Schools and Tyrrell Elementary.
